Spirituality courses and workshops

In conjunction with the Centre for Spiritual Exploration and Accompaniment (or CSEA),  I offer a series of spirituality courses and workshops every year. The CSEA is the educational arm of Spaceforsoul - a Bristol-based progressive Christian community which aims to support and resource people in making their own individual spiritual journeys. It offers a range of affordable educational and personal and spiritual growth opportunities.

Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love.

It will not lead you astray.

My background and experience

I have been involved in training and group facilitation of varying kinds since the mid-1970s. I am an experienced workshop leader and have led workshops and short courses in a variety of settings and for people working in a variety of different roles. I also have substantial experience of facilitating groups of varying kinds – for example, support groups, therapeutic groups, personal growth and encounter groups, spiritual exploration and meditation groups.

My approach

My approach as a trainer and group facilitator is fundamentally a person-centred one. I believe that we learn and grow best when we encounter an environment in which we feel accepted, valued, heard and understood; in which we are free to be ourselves and to express our own unique experiences and perspectives; and in which we are able to voice and find ways of meeting our own particular needs. I am committed, therefore, to creating a safe space that enables us to learn from each other’s experience, to draw on each other’s gifts and resources and to facilitate each other’s learning and growth.

In search of soul:

Exploring the spiritual journey

A one year part time spiritual exploration course

September 2021 - June 2022

Based in Bristol, UK. One Saturday a month over 10 months

‘And you? When will you begin that long

journey into yourself?’

                                                     Jalāl ad-Dīn Rumi

Introduction

This part time course is open to anyone with a strong interest in exploring spirituality and the spiritual journey from a broad perspective. You do not have to belong to a particular religious or spiritual tradition in order to do this course and it is not focused on any one particular spiritual pathway. All that is required is a desire to discover more of who you are as a spiritual person and to engage in a committed way with your own search for a deeper spiritual life.

It does not matter where you are on your spiritual journey, what you believe or don’t believe or whether you know what it is you are searching for. This course is a journey of discovery. It is for those of us who are seekers, who live with the conviction that ‘there must be something more than this’ and with a yearning for what the philosopher, William James called ‘the More’. It is both an inner journey and a journey into the heart of the Sacred Mystery.

The course will also be interest to health and social care practitioners who wish to develop their capacity to work with the spiritual dimension of experience or are considering undertaking training in spiritual accompaniment.  In this respect, the course acts as a substantial Continuing Professional Development course. It also forms the first year of the CSEA Diploma in Spiritual Accompaniment.

How will the course be structured and delivered?

This is a part time modular course which is delivered over nine months. There are ten Saturday meetings which will take place in the Bristol area - two whole day meetings from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm at the beginning and end of the course and eight monthly half day meetings from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm.  The maximum group size will be eight, including the tutor.

The three course modules are entitled:

The spiritual self

Making the spiritual journey

Exploring spiritual practice
